When you call to book your photo shoot, we will take a few minutes to discuss your goals and to learn a little about each other. This is a chance for you to share any ideas you have about your shoot, or anything else you feel is relevant information that we should be aware of. If this is your first photo shoot and not sure what you need or what to expect, then we can help you.
Preparing for the Shoot
Sleep - The night before the shoot try to get a good nights sleep. We know this might be hard but try. It goes without saying that your pictures will definitely look better if you are well rested.
Eat - Have something to eat before the shoot. This is not the time to be on a starvation diet. If you are hungry and low on energy, the pictures will without a doubt show that. There will be refreshments at the shoot so you will be able to maintain your energy.
Primp - Before the shoot, do NOT try any new skin care treatments. Treatments such as masks, peels, creams, exfoliants, etc. can do a number of things to your skin making it actually worse, causing redness, drying or accelerating breakouts. Most problems can be fixed with make-up and Photoshop. Just continue with your normal skin care regimen.
Hair - We feel that it is best if you come with your hair already styled like you would normally wear it. We will help with any finishing touches, such as taming flyaway hairs, etc. If you are planning to change hairstyles during the shoot, you are encouraged to bring the hair products and tools that you are most comfortable with.
What to Wear - The most important thing to keep in mind while you are picking out your wardrobe, is to choose clothes that are comfortable and you feel good in. It might be your favorite t-shirt, sweater or dress, it doesn't matter just as long as you love wearing it. Also keep in mind that occasionally your pants or skirt will show in the pictures, depending on the angle and framing. If you are unsure of what would look best you should bring several different options, and you, along with the photographer and stylist, will pick out what clothing works best with your skin tone, body type and personality. Even if you are sure of what you would like to wear, you should always bring a few extra choices, just in case your first choice is not translating well on camera. Things to stay away from are stripes, patterns, big logos, lettering, bright colors, ruffles or anything that would distract from what is important, you. However, there are exceptions to every rule, if there is something that you want to wear, bring it and we can discuss how it will look on camera.
During the Shoot
When you arrive the day of the shoot, we will review our goals and answer any final questions or concerns you may have. We will look through your clothing together and choose outfits that will work best for each look.
Once we start shooting, we will give you direction and feedback, however I find that the most successful photo shoots are the ones that don't feel like photo shoots. The photo shoot will feel more like having a conversation with a friend. We feel that giving restrictive directions produces images that look just that way, restrictive.
The Best Headshot uses only high-end digital equipment enabling you to periodically preview the images, so we can assess the images and make adjustments, if necessary.
We encourage you to bring any music that you love. It is your shoot and you should have your music. You can also just pick a Pandora station.
As long as you arrive at the shoot in good spirits and ready to have a little fun, we promise you that you will leave with a great headshot.
After the Shoot
Within 48 hours of the shoot you will receive an e-mail informing you that your personal and private web gallery has been posted. You can take as much or as little time as you need to decide which image works best for you. Once you have decided on the perfect image, it will be color corrected and retouched. You will receive one high-resolution image of each set up.
